Seems cheap labour affects the premiership too. Lost count of how many mediocre African players there are in the league. I suspect a lot of the African players in the league would cost a lot more for simply being English or German. Hard to compare like for like and, as always, people would disagree about the comparisons.
But I am sure when scouts and managers see African talent they subconsciously think they are cheaper than English or even other European players. And that's why we don't see so many homegrown players in the league.

Why are you explaining to me about the core aspects of an online forum being about opinions?? I am fully aware of how it works. An opinion has been offered and I have asked that person to question their opinion. I haven't said that the opinion is wrong or should not be offered.
My simple response of "Is it?" is as simple as it sounds. Is it actually a 'fucking disgrace' that we started a game without any Englishman? In this day and age of modern pro football is it a "fucking disgrace"? Really?
And I also find your comments "it's all about the football" alarmingly contradictory. Because if it was all about the football why would it matter how many Englishman were in the side? How does the nationality of a player have anything to do with the football? If we beat Acc Stanley 10-0 and played sublime football would it matter?
And as for your comment about me wanting instant success and to go and support Man City, well, I am not sure where to start. I mean, it's a completely irrelevant response to anything I have said and has absolutely nothing to do with the subject being discussed. I suppose in response to that I would ask "Are you drunk?

Russ, Any Old Iron is 100%. Those of us who have supported this team for 50 plus years will agree. Is it all about winning or, is it about the way WHU play football?? Its all about the football, Russ and if we win that's a Bonus. If you want instant success then go and support Man City. No Englishmen in the team is a fuckin disgrace. We just beg to differ and that's what this Forum is supposed to be about. Opinions...........

Good English players are unbuyable cause of price and we are raising generation after generation of snowflakes who seemingly never go anywhere without Mummy and Daddy in tow. Great players in the past learned their trade playing, from they could bearley walk, in parks and on the streets that won't happen now. Kids on the continent still have much more freedom than here and thats why still produce players

The economics of the modern game are mind numbing. Surely there must be competent young English players willing to step up?

The transfer policy this summer was rubbish
I don't like it...and I am from foreign parents myself!
Football isn't about that in any country but it's being ruined beyond belief.

Kearley,
When Liverpool won the cup in 1986 Steve McMahon was a non playing sub, and Craig Johnston (2 caps for England under 21's) played the whole match.

Didn't Liverpool win the FA Cup way back in the 80's without a single Englishman in the starting line up?
